The Périgord Vert
There’s not much going on here…
You could make plans, though. If you wanted to…
There isn't loads to do here. We should probably get that out of the way.
The Périgord Vert isn't the famous bit of the Dordogne. Nobody arrives with a bucket list. There isn't much you'll be devastated to have missed.
That's not really why you come.
This is a regional natural park with an almost unreasonable amount of forest. There are lakes you can swim in, old villages, markets, brocantes, châteaux, canoes and roads that get progressively smaller until you're fairly sure you've made a mistake.
Sometimes you have.
You can leave the house for bread and come back two hours later with an antique chair, half a chicken and no bread.
You can drive forty minutes to somewhere that looked excellent online and find a locked door. You can also pull over somewhere you hadn't planned to stop and have the best afternoon of the week.
That's more or less how the place works.
Maison G.H. is here, in the Périgord Vert in northern Dordogne. We live here. We've tried things. We've driven considerable distances for things that were absolutely not worth the petrol.
So no, we're not giving you 47 things to do.
Just the ones we'd do again.
